Terms of service
The agreement between you and Titulus. Written to be read: if anything here is unclear, email hello@titulusguide.com and we'll explain it or fix the wording.
Who we are, and what this is
Titulus is a service that lets a museum publish an audio guide its visitors reach by scanning QR codes on labels. It is operated from Alberta, Canada. “We” and “us” mean Titulus; “you” means the person or institution using it. Creating an account means accepting these terms.
Your account
You need an account to add exhibits, and you are responsible for what is done with it. Invite people to your museum rather than sharing one login: each person gets their own sign-in, and you can remove them at any time. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has it.
You must be old enough to enter into a contract where you live, and if you are signing up for an institution, you must be allowed to do so on its behalf.
Your content stays yours
Everything you put into Titulus — object details, text, photographs, recordings, your museum's name and logo — remains yours. You give us permission to store it, process it and show it to visitors, which is what makes the guide work, and nothing more. We don't sell it, we don't use it to advertise, and we don't use it to train AI models.
You can take it with you whenever you like: Export all data in the admin gives you a spreadsheet, the full text as JSON, your settings, and links to every photograph and recording.
What we ask of you
- Publish only content you have the right to publish, including photographs and quoted text.
- Don't use Titulus for anything unlawful, or to harass or mislead people.
- Don't try to get around the limits of your plan, overload the service, or use the AI and audio features to generate material unrelated to your museum.
- Don't attempt to reach other museums' drafts, staff details or accounts.
If something here is being abused in a way that costs us money or puts other museums at risk, we may suspend the features involved. We will tell you why, and published exhibits stay online while we sort it out.
Text written by AI, and machine translation
Titulus can draft exhibit text from your notes, and translate text you have already checked. Both are tools, not authorities. AI drafts are marked and cannot be published until someone at your museum confirms the facts. Machine translations go live labelled as such until someone who reads the language confirms them.
What a visitor reads and hears is published under your museum's name, so the responsibility for its accuracy is yours. We make no promise that AI-generated text is correct.
Plans and payment
- The free plan is genuinely free, with the limits shown on the Billing page.
- Paid plans are billed monthly in advance, in Canadian dollars, through Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- You can cancel at any time from the Billing page. Your plan continues until the end of the period you have paid for, and is not refunded for the remainder — but nothing you have published stops working when it ends.
- A trial is free, needs no card, and ends by itself. We email before it does.
- If a payment fails we retry it for a while and tell you. If it never succeeds, your museum returns to the free plan.
- We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for.
- We don't currently collect sales tax at checkout. If that changes — for example once we're required to register for tax in your country or province — we'll update this page and add it at checkout, with notice under the price-change term above.
What a plan limits, and what it never limits
Plans limit how much you can add: how many exhibits, how many languages. They never take away what you have already published. If your plan ends, your guide stays online and every recording keeps playing — you simply cannot add more until you have room again. This is deliberate, and we consider it part of the deal: a label on a wall should not stop working because of a billing problem.
Availability
We work to keep Titulus running, and visitor pages are designed to keep working on a phone even with no signal at all. We don't promise a particular level of uptime, and we may take the service down for maintenance or change how it works. If we plan something disruptive, we'll tell you first.
Deleting things
You can delete an exhibit, your museum, or your account yourself, from the admin. Deleting a museum removes its exhibits, translations, photographs, recordings and team access, and its guide stops answering — printed labels for it will show “not found”.
One honest detail: we keep encrypted nightly backups for thirty days, so for up to a month after a deletion your data still exists in a backup. If you delete something by mistake, email us within that window and we can usually put it back. If you need it destroyed sooner than that, say so and we'll arrange it.
Exhibit codes such as A001 are never reused after deletion, so an old label can never open a different object.
Ending the agreement
You can stop using Titulus at any time. We may end an account that breaks these terms, or close the service entirely — and if we ever close it, we will give at least 90 days' notice, keep guides running during that time, and make sure you can export everything before it ends.
Liability
Titulus is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for lost visitors or revenue, or for content published through the service. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll email the museum's owners and update the date at the top. Continuing to use Titulus after that means accepting the new version.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Alberta have jurisdiction.
